A SUSPECT has been arrested on suspicion of affray following an ‘altercation’ after a Warrington Town football match.

Cheshire Police says this follows footage circulating online of an incident between supporters of both clubs.

As part of its investigation into the incident which occurred on March 5, the force arrested a 45-year-old man from Warrington on suspicion of affray.

He has since been bailed and the investigation is still ongoing to identify those involved in the incident.

PC Joshua Meakin said: “The actions of some involved in this incident is unacceptable.

“This type of thuggish behaviour will not be tolerated – people go to football matches to watch football.

“Fighting and causing trouble will result in police action being taken. We are fully committed to ensuring that people can attend matches and public events safely.

“I am pleased that an arrest has been made, but we are still working to identify other people who took part in the violence that day.

“I urge anyone with any information to contact police.
