Man charged over Tarporley Road crash attended by air ambulance

Emergency services attended the incident on Tarporley Road in Stretton at around 6pm on Thursday, April 20, last year.

The crash involved a Yamaha motorcycle, which had two people on, and a Volkswagen Golf.

The rider of the motorcycle, a man in his 20s, sustained serious injuries to his left arm, which emergency services said at the time ‘may require surgery’.

Meanwhile, the passenger, a woman in her 20s, sustained multiple fractures to her left leg, which a Cheshire Police spokesman said would require surgery.

Both were rushed to Aintree Hospital, with an air ambulance landing in a nearby field.

Police closed the road while the incident was dealt with and there was heavy traffic in the area around the time.

Now, the courts have confirmed that a man has been charged in connection with the incident.

Benjamin Shields, aged 30 and of Bexhill Avenue in Orford, has been charged with causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

The particulars of the charge allege that on April 20, 2023, he caused serious injury to a woman by driving a black Yamaha 125 motorcycle on Tarporley Road ‘without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road’.

He is due to make a first appearance in relation to the charge before Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
