A LARGE cordon and road closures are in place after two men suffered stab wounds this morning.
Officers were called at around 5am today, Thursday, following reports a man in his 30s had been assaulted in Clock Face, St Helens and suffered stab wounds to his shoulder and hands.
A short time later officers were notified that a second man, also in his 30s, had presented at a house in a neighbouring street with stab wounds to the chest and back. The man ran off but was found nearby by patrols.
Both men were taken by ambulance to hospital where they are said to be in a stable condition.
An investigation is underway and house-to-house, CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out in the local area. Cordons are also in place to allow for forensic investigation.
Detective Inspector Alan Wood said: “Our enquiries are clearly at the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened and we will endeavour to speak to the two men involved as soon as possible.
“To assist with the investigation, we would ask anyone who was in the area of Four Acre Lane at around 5am today who saw or heard anything or anyone who believes they captured something on a Ring doorbell, CCTV or dashcam to get in touch as soon as possible.
“We will have a visible presence around the shopping centre as enquiries continue.”

The road is closed between Burnage Avenue and Neston Avenue and a cordon is in place from the entrance of Four Acre Shopping Centre and the Four Acre Lane entrance from Clock Face Road.
Extensive cordons are in place around the scene.
Motorists are advised to be aware of the closure, which is affecting bus services.
St Helens Council have advised that although the Chester Lane Library car park is currently inaccessible due to the road closure in place, the library remains open and is accessible by foot.
Other businesses on the shopping centre are open such as Waterfields and the pharmacy, however currently the Morrisons Daily and the tanning shop is closed.
The car park is closed due to the cordon.
