RESIDENTS of Warrington are doing their bit to ensure the streets are safe and clean during this year’s Great British Spring Clean.

Litter-picking volunteers across the town have come together to make a difference, and they have managed to collect a staggering amount of litter from streets.

This effort goes towards Keep Britain Tidy’s national Great British Spring Clean 2024, which began on March 15 and will run until March 31.

As of Sunday, the eight teams involved had picked 311 bags of litter – with this week still to go.

The number means that the team is on track to break last year’s record haul of 345 bags of litter, which has been applauded by Tony Dixon, one of Warrington’s Keep Britain Tidy ambassadors.

He said: “Great British Spring Clean has become an annual event we always look forward to, particularly after Warrington was awarded a Keep Britain Tidy Silver Star award for our performance.

“It is a great opportunity to tidy our areas of the town and further raise the profile of volunteer litter-picking.

“After three consistent years and around 25,000 bags of litter removed, many Warrington residents are starting to see a visible difference.

“The strength of the local movement reflects very favourably on the people of Warrington.”

Warrington litter teams are urging people to get involved for the final stretch of the spring clean.

Most litter picks last for a couple of hours, and organisers aim to provide kit for all booked participants.

A litter pick has been scheduled for Saturday at 9am covering Latchford, with participants meeting by Pizza Hut to tidy the village centre.
