DRIVERS are being warned that upcoming trips might be more expensive, as petrol prices are set to rise above 150p a litre for the first time in four months.

This rise in prices is sure to be a sting on residents planning trips over the extended Easter weekend.

This spike in the price of oil is set to trigger an increase in costs at the filling station, the AA says, with some non-motorway forecourts already charging 149.9p per litre for unleaded.

Petrol continues to be cheaper than it was a year ago, though the drop in the year to February, down 3.9 per cent, was smaller than the 6.4 per cent decrease in January, reflecting the recent rise in prices at the pumps.

The same trend applies to diesel, with a smaller year-on-year drop in February (down 10.8 per cent) compared with January (down 13.8 per cent).

A report from the RAC showed that average fuel prices have risen by more than 3p per litre in recent weeks.

It follows a three-month downward trend in fuel prices up to mid-January.
