THE town centre has changed quite a bit over the last 50 years.
It is largely unrecognisable now so, we have been taking a trip down memory lane.
Thanks to pictures in the Warrington Guardian archive and with the help of Google Maps we can see just how different things are now.
Springfield Street
How Springfield Street looked in the 1970s while land was being cleared to build the Golden Square
How it looked in March 2009 - remember Madame JoJo's?
And how it looks now
Remember when the top of Bridge Street used to look like this?
Since then this part of the town centre has been pedestrianised
Sankey Street
Here's another town centre road which looks a lot different now
But while many shops have changed, the Natwest bank is still there
While stores have come and gone, the buildings on the right of the road on Sankey Street look the same...
But i's a completely different view on the left hand side of the road
Before and after Golden Square was built
The buildings on the right were all knocked down to build Golden Square but you can see the Holy Trinity Church on the left hasn't changed
