A RUNNER will complete a cluster of half and full marathons over the coming months, in memory of his father who battled MS.

For the tenth year running, Chris Ball is prepping to take on multiple challenges which most would train year-round for to complete just one.

And it is all to raise money to find a cure for the condition which his dad bravely fought for 30 years.

Derek Ball died aged 72 in 2014 and Chris, from Orford, has spent every year since raising thousands to donate to the MS Society.

Chris spoke of how he never anticipated to still be doing this a decade on and how amazed he is each year by the generosity shown by residents of Warrington in backing his efforts.

He said: “I still believe without the support being shown I would not have carried on for this long.

“This year has been the most testing time for me, finally slowing down and realising I’m not as young as I was made me question my ability to keep running, lucky for me I have a wonderful supporting family who reminded me the strength my father showed with his MS battle.

“If I could show half the courage, he, did I can keep going for another 10 years.”

Chris’s goal this year is to raise £600 for the MS charity.

The different running challenges he is set to face this year include the Wigan half marathon in March, the Heaton Park half marathon in April, the Chester half marathon in May, topped off with the Peak District ultra challenge in July.

Then back in his hometown for the Orford Park 24-hour run starting on August 10, followed by the Warrington half marathon on September 22, the Chester marathon in October and lastly the Tatton Park half marathon in November.

Chris added: “Hoping to see a few of you coming to Orford Park in August to keep me company.”
