TEACHERS from 10 primary schools across Warrington came together in a bid to enhance the quality of science education.

A STEM workshop was held at Beamont Collegiate Academy (BCA) in Orford and brought together more than 70 science teachers from school all over the borough.

Facilitated by the Greater Merseyside and Warrington Science Learning Partnership, the interactive session aimed to provide each teacher with valuable insights, improved subject knowledge, and effective teaching strategies around working scientifically.

Donna Harris, a senior professional development lead for STEM learning, led the event, guiding teachers through a session of collaborative learning and hands-on activities.

Through the session, Donna demonstrated various teaching techniques, showcasing how to engage children in scientific enquiry and create a dynamic learning environment.

This provided teachers with practical examples they could incorporate into their own classrooms, enhancing the overall effectiveness of their teaching methods.

Speaking on the event, Donna said: “It was a privilege to work with such a motivated group of primary teachers, with all collaborating towards the shared aim of developing ways to further enhance the children's learning in science.

“They fully engaged with the practical activities and discussion resulting in lots of thinking and working scientifically taking place. It was a fabulous event to be part of.”

Beyond the structured session, the workshop provided an opportunity for teachers to collaborate and network.

Colleagues exchanged ideas, shared best practice, and discussed challenges, thus creating a supportive community dedicated to advancing science education in primary schools across Warrington.

The Science Learning Partnership (SLP) is based at The STEM Centre which also hosts the NCCE (National Centre for Computing Education) Computing hub for Merseyside and Warrington.

Both the SLP and Computing Hub are funded through DfE contracts to provide high quality STEM CPD across the region.

The STEM Centre is also the home of FabLab which provides a variety of opportunities to develop the Design and Technology skills of primary children across The Challenge Academy Trust (TCAT) as well as external workshops which are available to the public.
