AN underwater dive team will soon conduct an urgent investigation at Lymm Dam.

A specialist contractor will attend the site to assess valves at the upper dam.

The news has been confirmed by Cllr Graham Gowland, a representative of Lymm South on Warrington Borough Council, as well as Lymm Parish Council.

The work will begin on Monday, March 11, with temporary traffic lights being in operation in the vicinity.

In a statement, Cllr Gowland said: “A specialist contractor has been appointed to undertake urgent investigation and assessment of all valves at the upper dam.

“Works will require an underwater dive team and a significant amount of equipment.

“To ensure site safety, it will be necessary to implement a footway and lane closure on Church Road. Half of the length of the lay-by will also be closed.

“Temporary traffic light control will be in operation between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday. A temporary pedestrian crossing will be provided.

“Temporary traffic lights will be removed at the end of each working shift and the footway will be opened.

“Unfortunately, the lay-by will remain closed overnight for the duration of the works to prevent early parking and obstruction of operations.

“Works are currently scheduled to start on Monday, March 11, however the start date may need to be moved at short notice to March 18 in the event the dive team is called to an emergency.

“Five days have been allowed to complete works.”
