A WARRINGTON mum who helped a family through the heartbreaking grief of losing a child has won a national volunteer award.

Liz Kemp, who volunteers for Fairfield-based Home-Start Warrington, was named home visiting volunteer at Home-Start UK’s National Volunteer Awards.

Mum-of-four Liz was recognised for her dedication to supporting families in their homes for the last five years.

During this time, she has given nearly 800 hours of her time to the charity, and most recently she supported a family through the grief of losing a child.

The grieving mum spoke of how supportive Liz has been saying: “With her huge heart and endless dedication, Liz has been there for me, giving me emotional support and making it possible for me to find the time to focus on myself and my feelings.”

Speaking about her volunteering, Liz commented: “I became a volunteer because I wanted to give something back to my community, and it has become everything.

“I love being able to help people, and hopefully I have made a difference.”

Lucy Glover, business development manager of Home-Start Warrington, was thrilled that Liz’s volunteering had been recognised.

She added: “Winning the home visiting volunteer of the year award is a testament to Liz’s dedication and compassion.

“Her commitment to supporting families in our community is truly inspirational.”

Sally Munday, volunteer development manager for Home-Start UK, said “There are more than 10,000 Home-Start volunteers and 1,000 trustees who volunteer in communities all over the UK.

“They all make a huge difference to families, and our Volunteer Awards are a perfect opportunity to recognise the incredible achievements of just some of them.

“It is just a small thank you for the amazing impact they have made in their communities.”
