THREE flood warnings have been issued for areas along the River Mersey in Warrington.

A flood alert is also in force for with wider Mersey estuary in the town – with all warnings and the alert in force as of now, Monday.

The more severe flood warnings are in place for Victoria Park in Latchford, Arpley Bridge near Bridge Foot in the town centre and areas close to the Mersey including near to Riverside Trading Estate, the Ferry Tavern pub in Penketh and Fiddlers Ferry Sailing Club.

The first of these encompasses the car park, bowling greens, running track, allotments, playground, skatepark and sports pitches at Victoria Park.

The warnings read: “This flood warning has been issued due to the high tide forecast this afternoon, Monday. Flooding is expected from 1.30pm.

“We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next two days, and as a result we may issue further alerts or warnings. 

“Our incident rooms are on standby, and we are closely monitoring the situation. 

“We are liaising with emergency services and local authorities. 

“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. 

“This message will be updated by 5pm today, or as the situation changes.”

The flood alert meanwhile encompasses the Mersey through Woolston Eyes and Paddington Meadows, Cardinal Newman High School, Howley, Latchford, Centre Park and Lower Walton.

It also covers areas of Walton, Sankey Bridges and land in between Sankey Canal and Manchester Ship Canal.

It reads: “This flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast this afternoon, Monday. Flooding is possible at low lying lands and roads from 1.30pm.

“It is possible that river levels may affect Arpley Road under the railway bridge.    

“We currently anticipate the flood alert level to be met during the high tide in the early hours of tomorrow morning, Tuesday.

“We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next two days, and as a result we may issue further alerts or warnings. 

“Our incident rooms are on standby, and we are closely monitoring the situation. 

“We are liaising with emergency services and local authorities. 

“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. 

“This message will be updated by 3pm today, or as the situation changes.”
