APARTMENTS built on the site of a demolished former sports pub are finally open after delays in their construction.

Torus and Warrington Borough Council have officially opened Marsh Court, at the junction of Manchester Road and Padgate Lane in Padgate.

Work began to demolish Chevys Sports Bar, which closed in 2017, began in June 2021, with the building dating back to the 1870s, having previously been known as the Cemetery Hotel, the Good Companions and Formbys.

The development seemed on track to be completed last summer, however residents reported that the scheme had ‘ground to a halt’.

But work is now complete on the £3.7million scheme to build a block of 30 new apartments – all of which are available via affordable rent.

Featuring several materials and build techniques to improve energy efficiency, the building has been designed to reduce tenants’ energy usage and create a home that is cheaper to run.

Chris Bowen, managing director at Torus Developments, said: “I am incredibly proud of this scheme as not only has it completely reinvigorated the site, but it has also created something that Warrington genuinely needs – more new, affordable homes.
