A SUSPECTED shoplifter has been charged by police after being arrested following a pursuit on foot.

Cheshire Police said that officers were involved in the foot chase and the arrest of a man yesterday, Tuesday, who was wanted for a series of thefts from Co-ops in Latchford.

It was also alleged that he made verbal threats to staff who tried to prevent the thefts.

The chase began on Kingsway South and took officers through Victoria Park to the vicinity of the Sainsbury’s supermarket on Church Street.

Here, the suspect was arrested, with officers assisted by colleagues in the Warrington CCTV office.

Barclay Redford, aged 20 and of the Latchford area, was subsequently charged with more than 10 offences and remanded in custody.

It comes after officers were deployed to arrest other suspected shoplifters over the weekend and on Monday.

Teams ventured into Lancashire and Greater Manchester to arrest suspected travelling criminals.

On Monday, a man from the Tameside area of Greater Manchester was arrested on suspicion of a series of theft offences from Warrington and Macclesfield.

Heathcliffe Dunning, aged 53 and of Rose Hill in Denton, has since been charged with eight counts of shoplifting.

He has been released on conditional bail and is set to appear before Warrington Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, March 13.

Another man who was sought by Cheshire Police attended a police station voluntarily and has been reported for summons for two offences of theft from TK Maxx in Golden Square Shopping Centre from early January.
