A MAN who died after being hit by a train near Warrington has been named.

An inquest into the death of Jonathan Wright, 51, of Landsdowne, Culcheth, was opened at Warrington Coroners’ Court on Wednesday.

Mr Wright was struck by a train on the trackside near Winwick, between Parkside Road and Winwick Lane on Thursday, January 18.

Area coroner Victoria Davies confirmed the cause of death was ‘unnatural’.

The case will be reviewed on March 31 and an inquest date has been set for May 28.

British Transport Police were called to the railway at around 5.50pm on January 18, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Officers attended with paramedics, however, sadly, Mr Wright was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time a spokesman for British Transport Police said: "The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The incident closed the line between Warrington Bank Quay and Manchester Victoria.
