COMMUTERS can bag themselves deals aplenty in the new Great British Rail Sale, which kicks off next week.

With just a seven-day window to book heavily discounted tickets, commuters are urged to check rail operator websites for deals.

According to National Rail's dedicated page for this year's Great British Rail Sale, discounted tickets have been available since yesterday, January 23, and will be available to book until January 29.

Tickets must be booked before January 29.

The discounted fares are available for journeys between January 30 and March 15.

One-way tickets from Warrington Bank Quay to London Euston, for example, can be booked for £26.

The sale only applies to 'advanced' tickets, meaning that passengers will need to book two singles instead of one return in order to receive the discount.

According to Great Western Railway: "Train operating companies across England and Wales are working together to offer up to 50 per cent off selected advance tickets on over 1million journeys.

"The discounted fares will be available from participating train operating companies and ticket retailers.

"Where a participating train company doesn't offer advance tickets, off-peak tickets may be offered as an alternative."
