A STOCKTON Heath steakhouse is jubilant after redeeming its food hygiene rating.

Bavette Steakhouse, off London Road in Stockton Heath, has scored top marks in its most recent food hygiene rating.

This comes after a disappointingly low score in its previous inspection from Environmental Health.

Officers inspect premises according to the Food Standards Agency's criteria:

  • Hygienic food handling - Hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.
  • Management of food safety - System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future.
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building - Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building (including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control) to enable good food hygiene.

Bavette was previously inspected on September 19, and it was rated one-out-of-five for food hygiene; the restaurant was told that it required 'major improvement' within its operations.

The inspector's words seem to have been heeded, however, with Bavette Steakhouse now being rated five-out-of-five for food hygiene.

According to the FSA, the restaurant was deemed to be 'very good' across all three of the criteria.

There is a delay between inspections taking place and the results being made publicly available - Bavette Steakhouse was most recently rated on December 20, 2023.
