MOUNDS of rubbish and items have been dumped on Lovely Lane – right next to a skip.

A mattress, cot and countless bags of rubbish sit abandoned at the back of the corner shop Mini Mart on the busy main road.

One resident Phil Mcfarlane who noticed the atrocities went to social media to highlight the ‘state’ of it, adding that the sheer volume of rubbish is causing an unpleasant odour.

“Have people not heard of a tip?” he stated. “It’s a disgrace, makes the street look horrible.”

Others took to the social media post to express their disapproval in the ‘disgusting’ fly-tipping which one resident said is a common occurrence, saying: “Every day I walk past, more and more gets dumped there.”

Ironically the rubbish is situated right next to a skip, with a shopping trolley also full to the brim with discarded items.

Visitors who use the shop and local hairdressers have said they are deterred from parking in the area behind the street because of the shocking sight.

One resident summarised the mutual feeling from locals, adding: “No pride in the areas that we live in anymore.”

Warrington Borough council issued advice on the issue of fly-tipping advising residents not to take action in removing it but to report it instead.

‘If you see fly-tipping it’s better to not move it or clear it away yourself but to report it. We don’t want you to put yourself at risk of injury or move any evidence of who dumped the rubbish so we can prosecute them.’

The council also state that it can take legal action against people caught fly-tipping in the form of court prosecutions and fixed penalty notices if there is valid evidence of the culprit.

‘This evidence could be from a witness, CCTV footage, mobile phone recordings or finding evidence in the waste. Where we cannot take formal action, we consider, verbal and written warnings.’

Warrington Borough council have been approached for comment on the issue.
