RESIDENTS are being encouraged to take steps to live a healthier life this January.

The council has issued advice to help people set themselves small, achievable goals.

This is with the aim of living a healthier life.

The advice is as follows:

Quit smoking – Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. You’ll have more energy, feel healthier and also save money. Make 2024 the year you quit. Help and support with quitting smoking can be found on LiveWire’s website

Take part in Dry January - Cutting back on drinking will help you have better sleep, save money, and improve your mental health. Visit the Alcohol change website for more information and support

Eat well – Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health and can help you feel your best. It can help you to maintain a healthy weight, keep your bones and joints strong, ensure you have enough energy and much more. Information and guidance around eating a healthy, balanced diet can be found on the NHS website. If you need help with food, there are a number of foodbanks across Warrington, which you can view on our cost of living support page

Exercise – Try and get yourself moving more this year. Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it’s also great for your mind. Visit the Better Health website for ways you can keep active

Look after your mental health – We all deserve to enjoy life and feel good about ourselves but sometimes life can be tough. If you think you need help with your mental health, visit Warrington’s mental health support directory - Happy? Ok? Sad?

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: “January can be a great time to start thinking about ways we can lead healthier lives in the year ahead. Even small changes can have a big impact on our health and wellbeing.

“If you’d like to take positive steps forward for a happier, healthier future, there’s no better time than right now. There’s lots of advice and guidance on offer to ensure you are supported at every step of the way.”
