A POPULAR pub that shocked many residents when it announced it would be closing now says its future is set to be secured.

The Rope and Anchor in Woolston made the shock announcement that it would close its doors at the end of October.

This came following a period of time when the pub was on the market though was not snapped up by any buyers.

The decision was made for the pub to temporarily close its doors on October 31, with brewery JW Lees announcing it was an ambition to have the pub back open before Christmas.

Taking to social media, the new management team made the announcement that the beloved pub would be opening its doors open once more yesterday, Monday.

The team says this was an ‘amazing’ success, and that an investment in the pub by the brewery will secure its future.

In one post, the pub said: “Wow, what an amazing first day in The Rope. Thank you for an amazing welcome.

“We have listened to every one of you, and we are now having a consultation about entertainment on a Saturday evening. Thank you from the team.”

In another, it added: “Some amazing news to tell you all. We are open until January 28, then we close until early March, when we will open with a new menu.

“Fabulous news, then the brewery will spend approximately £450,000 on an amazing refurbishment.

“These are really exciting times. The brewery has made an amazing outlay to secure the pub’s future.

“Long live the local and thank you JW Lees.”
