Thelwall Grange Nursing Home demolition on the cards

Thelwall Grange Nursing Home has seen a planning application submitted that - if approved - would see part of the home pulled down and transformed.

Documents available on the council's planning portal show that eight homes would be built on the site that the home currently sits on, with the design and access statement reading: "The building is to be converted to six two-bed apartments, a semi-detached three-bed dwelling, and a separate detached four-bed [home]."

Developers say that the partial demolition/conversion of the building is to 'ensure that the best and most architecturally significant element of the historic buildings on the site will be retained.'

The plans continue: "Following the removal of the modern extensions and alterations – including the stablings - the volume and scale of the demolished buildings on the site will be reused to provide 10 new dwellings ranging from two-bed bungalows to four-bed detached homes."

Overall this would mean that the partial demolition would make way for 18 new homes in total.

According to the documents, four of the new homes would be considered 'affordable,' in compliance with planning legislation.

The nursing home closed in 2022, and has remained in a state of disuse since its closure.

A four-month consultation period took place over the summer months between the developers and the council regarding the pre-submission of any planning applications.

The planning proposals are available to view on the council's planning portal, and the public consultation period is open until December 12.

A decision is due to be made by planning officers at Warrington Borough Council by February 13, 2024.
