A FAMILY business that started as a stall on Warrington Fish Market in the 1950s has now opened its new store on Sankey Street.

Bags Couture, originally known as Beauty Kingdom, has been passed down three generations.

But the business will be given a new lease of life with the move to Golden Square.

Mother and son duo, Hayden and Shelly Baer, run the shop which sells an abundance of bags, luggage, rucksacks, and perfumes.

Hayden, 36, from Manchester, said his grandma Helen first started her luggage empire in the 1950s beneath the shelter of the Warrington Fish Market.

“It’s a third-generation family business,” he said. “We have been in Cockhedge Shopping Centre for the past 20 years.”

Sadly, since plans were announced that the central shopping centre is set to be demolished, owners Hayden and Shelly have had no choice but to move premises.

“It was the end of an ear but the start of something new,” Hayden said.

“As a business we always embrace change and I think that is what has kept us relevant in an ever-changing retail environment.

“It’s an achievement for anyone to have been in business for this amount of time.”

Bags Couture has built up its own network of returning customers of its decades of trading.

But Hayden and Shelly are excited to welcome new faces in light of the shops new venture moving forward.

The shop is now situated at a prime location on Sankey Street on the site of the former Santander bank.

“We have been open a couple of weeks now and it has been received well,” he added.

“Please come down and say hello, we have some amazing new ranges and new products that we would like everyone to see.”
