AN enormous new distribution centre costing £80million will put Warrington at the heart of a household retail name.

Iceland has marked the next stage in the expansion of its operations network after taking the keys at its new warehouse at Omega, which took two years to build.

With the building stage completed of the unit, which more than 550 square feet –in excess of eight football pitches – the fit-out will now commence, with the site due to open in late 2024.

As the flagship site within its warehouse network, this will be Iceland’s largest distribution centre – supplying more than 350 Iceland and Iceland Food Warehouse stores from the north east down to Wales and Birmingham.

During peak demand season, the site will employ in excess of 700 people, and all employees from the current Woolston warehouse will transfer to the new Omega depot.

The building will include a gym and a well-equipped canteen to offer workers the best working environment when they join.

“That is why we are excited to be bringing our biggest depot yet to Warrington and offer a range of employment opportunities for locals.

As part of Iceland’s investment in the area of Warrington and St Helens, the warehouse will also be recruiting for additional vacancies from the area.

The new site also offers apprenticeship programmes, focused on providing learning and development opportunities to applicants.
