A MAN who moved from Warrington to Israel has spoken out about the terrible grief after his partner and five members of her family being murdered by Hamas militants.
Julian’s partner of five years, Carol Siman Tov, was in her own home on the Saturday, October 7, when Hamas militants attacked Nir Oz, an Israeli settlement roughly 1.5km from the Gaza border.
Julian was staying in his own flat in Nir Ozwhen the attack happened and fled to a safe room with his small dog. He took shelter for 10 hours until the Israeli army evacuated him.
He told The i: “During the day the terrorists entered my home and smashed and stole and broke and attempted to enter the shelter where I was hiding.”
After arriving at a protected shelter, he said: “I started to look for my partner and couldn’t find her. I said, ‘I’ve got to go and get her’, and then I was told ‘you can’t go and get her because they’ve murdered her.”
Soon after, he was told that Carol's son, Jonathan, his wife, and their three children, six, six, and four years old, had been killed, along with Carol’s dog, Charlie.
Julian also said: “What has happened here, on Nir Oz kibbutz and Israel… it’s exactly the same [as the horrors of Auschwitz.]”
Mr Cohen went on to tell The i: “They welcomed me into their family, we celebrated together and travelled together and did Friday night Shabbat together and we were a family.. and what we’ve lost is… beyond belief.
“Carol had 11 grandchildren, devoted to every one of them.”
Julian has since found out from local residents that his home has been burned to the ground by militants.
