A ‘killer magpie’ is sending residents of Great Sankey hysterical.

The crazed bird is being described as ‘feral, mad, and a killer’ – and is tormenting anyone who dares to go near it.

Gary Jenkins, 47, is one of many residents that has been in contact with the bird while out walking his dog.

“Everyone is talking about it in Sankey,” he said. “It all started on our WhatsApp group.

“It hangs around The Eagle. It’s not afraid of humans or dogs. My daughter India was walking our dog and it started pecking her feet.

“She dropped her air pods and was trying to pick them back up, but it was pecking those too and would not leave her alone.”

Sightings of Sankey’s feathered menace have been on Thornton Road and The Eagle Sports & Social Club.

“Rumours say it is called Murcar and it was raised by humans,” Gary added.

“It is a bit tatty; it has been around the block this one.”

Gary said an older lady on his road has also been made victim to the wild bird, who was ‘pecking away at her heels’ while she was trying to walk her dog.

Great Sankey community Facebook groups have seen other residents speak out on their ‘issues’ with the killer magpie, with one person saying: “Has anyone else had issues with this magpie?

“It has been chasing us for weeks and has now pecked me today.”

Gary, a public relations manager, said his wife Lisa was so scared when confronted by the magpie that she had to ask a stranger passing for help.

So, if you see a brazen bird making a beeline for you and your dog in Great Sankey, it might well be the killer magpie.
