A ‘WELL-loved’ community café that was left crippled by the pandemic is set to re-open next month.

Located in Longford, the established café was at the heart of long-standing charity The Roy Humphreys centre, before it was sadly forced to close due to the effects of Covid and lockdowns.

It will now return to the site of the charity which began in the 1990s based on Sandy Lane.

Supporting manager for the organisation Amanda Gillespie spoke on the café’s long-awaited return.

“The community café offers affordable food, a safe space to socialise and a place to access support , advice and a range of activities,” she commented.

“Unfortunately, due to the pandemic and the challenges faced by the cost of living crisis, the café had to close temporarily last summer.”

Amanda explained that during the last year, trustees and volunteers of the charity have been hard at work trying to build funding to re-open the café.

“We are now very excited to say that we can open on Thursday, October 5, to the public and welcome residents from Longford and wider Warrington,” she added.

The comforting space that was once shared by the local community has always strived to offer affordable food and drinks and this feature will return – much to the delight of residents.

Not only that, but the site also has a thift shop, with all items inside costing just one English pound, all the proceeds of which go back into the charity.

Amanda added: “We greatly appreciate donations towards the thrift shop of clothes that are clean and suitable for the current season and tombola donations."

The café will be open Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am to 2pm, so drop by for a drink and a bite to eat.
