HOTSPOTS for nitrous oxide binging in south Warrington are to receive extra attention from police.

Officers say they have seen evidence and received reports of the use of the substance in Stretton.

Also known as laughing gas, when the colourless substance is inhaled, usually through a balloon, it can make people feel dizzy and lead to hallucinations.

If you take too much nitrous oxide, you risk falling unconscious and suffocating from the lack of oxygen. People have also died this way.

The force’s Hatton, Stretton and Walton Police team said: “After a wet start to the shift, we were able to get out and carry out some foot patrol across various parts of the area.

“We have checked Sankey Lane today to discover there is recent evidence of nitrous oxide (NOS) usage. We will be paying the area additional attention over the next few weeks.

“We have also been informed the fields near to Goose Lane have seen recent usage of NOS by unknown persons, and also Pewterspear Green Pavilion.

“Both of these areas will also be given extra attention too.

“If you have any information that can help identify anyone taking NOS at these or any locations, please get in touch.”
