THE demolition of a building earmarked for flats on a busy Warrington road is under way.

The site, which is now rubble, is based on 224 Wilderspool Causeway.

It was home to a former office before it was transformed into a two-storey house of multiple occupancy.

In 2020, the Warrington Guardian reported how plans had been submitted to build a five-storey block of 29 flats on the land.

The plans, which consist of three one-bedroom flats and 26 two-bedroom flats as well as 32 parking spaces, associated landscaping, bike, and refuse storage, were approved back in June last year.

The scheme stated that the existing buildings would need to be demolished.

At the time of submission, planning documents stated: "The application seeks planning approval for a five-storey residential apartment block within a predominately residential neighbourhood set along Wilderspool Causeway.

"We believe the submitted plans demonstrate it is possible to create a high-quality unique development with architectural merit, which is both well considered and viable.

"In addition, we believe the proposed development can make a positive contribution to the area without adversely affecting the amenity of any neighbouring properties."
