AN historic Warrington church will be open to visitors this weekend.

St Mary’s in Great Sankey is taking part in the Heritage Open Days on Saturday and Sunday.

It will be an opportunity to find out the fascinating history of this Grade II listed building which is nearly 250 years old. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.

Rev Jeremy Tear, pioneer team rector for West Warrington Church and vicar of St Mary’s, said: “We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to explore the history of your local parish church.

"This will include a slide display of our beautiful stained glass windows and pictures of the church and churchyard.”

St Mary’s is situated at the cross roads on the A57 Liverpool Road in Great Sankey opposite the Chapel House Pub.

All are welcome to attend and there is disabled access. Opening times will be 10am to 12 noon on Saturday and 10am to 2pm on Sunday.
