Students at Cardinal Newman will reap the benefits of significant investment this year, giving them the best facilities to take advantage of the wealth of opportunity the school offers.

The school’s rigorous and ambitious curriculum was recognised in the Ofsted report of November 2022, which praised the ‘happy and welcoming school’ for the quality of education provided. The school’s inspectorate stated that ‘leaders and governors are ambitious for all pupils and have thought carefully about the knowledge they want them to learn and when they should learn it.’  They added that this is complemented by a ‘wealth of opportunity’ acknowledging Cardinal Newman’s long-standing tradition of providing a wide variety of experiences beyond the classroom which really do enable their students to have ‘life and have it to the full,’ as set out in the school’s mission statement.

The long awaited new state of the art artificial pitch adds to the impressive  sports facilities, whilst a brand new Food Technology room, supported through a partnership with the Savoy Trust, and a new CAD CAM Design Studio means that students attending Cardinal Newman can have the highest quality learning experiences in their lessons. These facilities are also utilised in the extra curricular clubs and many enrichment activities that are run outside of timetabled hours, to challenge and develop Cardinal Newman students to become the leaders of the future.

Head teacher Jo Langstaff explained that ‘our goal is to bring the best out in every child who attends our school, through providing them with the very best quality teaching in a first rate setting, and offering the highest standard of pastoral care to ensure they are supported to reach their goals. The school’s values of Service, Compassion, Forgiveness and Truth are the key values we instill in our young people.  They remind us all daily that Hard Work, Kindness, Resilience and Confidence are at the heart of everything we do as a school and everything we seek to develop in our students.’

The school also invests significantly in Careers support to prepare their students for success.  ‘We see it as a journey from the moment the students step through our door in Year 7,’ explains Head of Careers and Personal Development, Samantha McWilliams.  ‘Everyone has access to individual Careers advice, a bespoke programme of events and workshops and that translates into an incredibly high percentage of our young people making a successful transition to their studies and careers at the end of Year 11.  It was lovely to see our Class of 2023 achieving just that this summer.’
