PARKING restrictions are to be implemented on two streets in Orford following complaints from residents.

The limitations will come into effect in the next four to six weeks on Norris Street and Orford Avenue after safety concerns were raised by residents.

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) was advertised on March 30, in response to concerns raised about the safety of vehicles parking on double yellow lines on the north side of Norris Street.

Residents complained of the obstruction the parking has caused on the footpath making it difficult for pedestrians to pass without stepping onto the road.

The current TRO in place on the roads does not allow for the existing double yellow lines to be legally enforced.

The council proposed the following limitations: enforcing parking restrictions on the yellow lines and bus stop clearway on Norris Street, as well as on the yellow lines on Orford Avenue.

As well as one hour of parking in the bays on the southern side of Norris Street.

After 49 written objections were received to the proposed plans, the TRO will only implement the yellow lines and bus stop clearway on both streets.

The advertised one-hour maximum stay at the bays on the southern side of Norris Street was removed from the proposals, following the public feedback.

A spokesperson from the council said: “Road markings will be refreshed, and any necessary traffic signs removed or added where required.

“It is anticipated that the works will be undertaken in the next four to six weeks, followed by the issue of warning notices for a short period prior to formal Penalty Charge Notices for offending vehicles.”
