A FIRST-look at ITV’s second series of The Tower, featuring locations in Wirral and across Merseyside, has been unveiled.

Facilitated by the Liverpool Film Office, The Tower II: Death Message filmed during summer last year features locations such as Liscard Road in Wallasey, The Heath Business and Technical Park in Runcorn, Rodney Street in Liverpool, Allerton Towers, Bootle Strand plus many more.

Based on Kate London’s second crime novel Death Message, the series has been adapted by screenwriter Patrick Harbinson (Homeland) and will see Gemma Whelan (Game of Thrones) as DS Sarah Collins and Jimmy Akingbola (Kate & Koji) as DC Steve Bradshaw returning in their starring roles in the acclaimed crime drama.

Recently nominated for a BAFTA for her role in the first series, Tahirah Sharif will also reprise the role of PC Lizzie Adama alongside Emmett J Scanlan as DI Kieran Shaw.

The series opens with PC Adama returning to Farlow Police Station to be partnered with fellow officer Arif Johar (Michael Karim) by her boss and former lover DI Shaw. Their first call is to a report of domestic violence against Mark Brannon (Charley Palmer Rothwell) who is accused of attacking his girlfriend Georgina Teel (Rosa Coduri).

Lizzie persuades Georgina to tell the truth about what Brannon has done to her, enabling Lizzie and Arif to arrest him. However, once the case gets to court, Georgina’s testimony and the cross-examination doesn’t go according to plan, leading to tragedy and leaving the case on a knife-edge.

The Tower II: Death Message will air on ITV 1 and ITVX on August 28.
