WITH numbers of pupils rising every year, a primary school in Bewsey has secured itself a brand-new classroom to welcome all its new leaners.

A number of local businesses in Warrington generously donated the supplies to enable Bewsey Lodge Primary School to create its new learning space.

The existing conservatory on the site has been transformed into a classroom for year three pupils to begin their next year of education at the start of the new term in September.

Emma Williams, head teacher, said: "Vikci Leach, who is a teacher at the school and leader of the PTA, took it upon herself to contact local business to ask for support with materials and resources.

"After many months of letters, phone calls and emails, she managed to secure enough pledged materials and resources from Selco, MKM, Huws Gray, CK building supplies, MJC Joinery, Smarter Driveway Solutions and Winwick Skips to begin the work.

"We now have a new, full-size room ready for use by year three and four in September. "Having this additional room will help to reduce numbers in each class in Key Stage 2 and help us to provide the very best learning opportunities for all of our children.

"The Governors, staff and children would like to once again extend their thanks to the local businesses that kindly contributed a total of over £7,000 in materials and resources - without their kindness this room could never have been built. "

Vicki, a teacher and PTA chair of Bewsey Lodge, said: “We have had new pupils start at the school recently taking our total up to 370.

“That, coupled with the requirements to provide small breakout areas to meet the needs of some pupils, meant we needed more classroom space.

“That brings with it its own challenges when it comes to funding, so the support of Selco and all the businesses has been crucial and our huge thanks goes to them.

“We want to provide the best possible education we can to our pupils, and this additional classroom will provide that opportunity,” Vicki added.

Paul Birtles, manager of Selco Warrington, said: “Bewsey Lodge Primary School is less than a mile from our branch, and we have a number of customers and colleagues who have children who attend there.

“Being able to make a donation which will help the school extend vital education provision will benefit the local community and that is something we are always keen to do at Selco.”
