A CELEBRATION marking the 10th anniversary of Warrington's Bollywood dance community has taken place.

The group, which began in 2013, held a special event on Sunday, July 2, to mark the event.

Taking to Winwick Community Centre for the celebration, the dance group reminisced of their many successes over the years.

One such success was when members like Sonia Tandon had the chance to dance for the late Queen Elizabeth II when she visited Chester Zoo for her Diamond Jubilee.

Sonia, who is an engineering lecturer at Cronton Sixth Form College, explained that the celebration did not just represent 10 years of the group, but of something more.

Speaking to the Warrington Guardian, she said: "Warrington's Indian community celebrated 10 years of Bollywood dance and integration within the wider community.

"I have been teaching friends and family for 10 years at various local community halls such as Whittle Hall, Grappenhall Community Centre and Fairfield."

Sonia added that the interest and enthusiasm of members have allowed the group to grow and surpass her expectations: "What started as a casual group 10 years ago has now turned into an extremely active community group involving boys, girls and men and women of all age groups and professions.

"The group mainly consists of NHS professionals who take time out from their extremely busy schedules to be a part of community and charity events."
