Children get the best start in life at Alderman Bolton Nursery

The Early Years department at the Latchford school on Longdin Street have scooped one of our Warrington Guardian Education Awards.

Thirteen outstanding winners have been honoured as part of this year’s Warrington Guardian Education Awards.

The annual awards aim to celebrate schools, nurseries and colleges across the town, championing pupils and students, teachers and assistants, and classes and teams.

Nursery is the first step into the world of education and is often the child’s first venture alone in the big, wide world outside of the family home so it’s crucial that they’re made to feel welcome and safe.

Headed by Christina Richards, the Early Years team create strong and lasting foundations on which children, aged between two and four, can build throughout their lives and deliver the best experiences to the highest standards.

The nomination for the Early Years team said: “The ladies in the nursery are amazing with all the children and work so hard to make nursery a fun enjoyable place to be for all two to four-year-olds.

“They make every child feel safe and excited to return each day so they can have more fun!”

Play and exploration is fundamental to the nursery meaning that the children are able to choose activities where they can engage with other children or adults or even play alone if they wish.

During these activities, the children will learn through first-hand experiences and the children are encouraged to develop their self-confidence, resilience to learning and independence throughout the school year.

Christina Richards, Early Years lead, who has been at the nursery and school for four years, said: “The staff and the headteacher here at Alderman Bolton are amazing and so supportive.

“I’ve been Early Years lead for a year and have been given so many opportunities to put forward my ideas and to make the teaching and learning exactly how I envisage it.

“The children deserve to have an excellent start in life, no matter what their background.

“It makes me very emotional to think about the parents who nominated us and shows how much they appreciate all the hard work we’ve put in – they’ve been so supportive.

“Thank you to the whole early years team for supporting me over the past year – this award is for all of us.”

Headteacher Sarah Morris said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to work with such a talented and passionate team. 
“Our Early Years department plays such a pivotal role in the development of our children. 
“They provide them with a wealth of engaging and exciting learning opportunities from Spanish lessons with our language teacher to outdoor play and school trips. 
“I am delighted their hard work and commitment has been recognised and celebrated by our families.”
