A CAFÉ in Warrington has been recognised for offering one of the best croissants in the UK.

So we headed over to try some - and they didn't disappoint.

Gourmand! opened on Sankey Street nearly two years ago with the aim of bringing a ‘piece of France’ to the town.

It is owned by French husband and wife Julien Ramos and Olivia Le who are originally from Montpellier and Nîmes.

The eatery provides authentic and traditional French recipes and the couple are often awake from 4am each morning baking homemade goods.

And now Julien and Olivia, who live in Orford, have been recognised for their hard work and delicious products, namely their croissants.

Gourmand! has been shortlisted in the Best Croissant UK 2023 competition which is hosted by Isigny Ste mère.

Warrington Guardian:

It is one of 85 bakeries in the UK to be named in the competition and only the 10 with the most votes will go through to the final where a judging panel will judge a batch of 10 croissants based on the shape, colour, and taste.

The artisan croissants offered by Gourmand! are exactly how you’d find them in France and it is a long process to bake them and takes time, dedication, and skill.

We put them to the test and they didn't disappoint.

Olivia and Julien recommended no filling and it soon becomes apparent why this is for the best as the croissants have a buttery yet slightly sweet taste.

They are delicious.

It is no surprise that the croissants can sell out just 20 minutes after opening.

Talking about being shortlisted, Julien said: “It means a lot to us to be in a competition alongside the best bakeries and pastry chefs.

“It is recognition of our hard work.”

Olivia added: “We are proud to say that we have put Warrington on the map for having one of the best croissants.

“It is a big deal for us.”

Voting in the first part of the competition is open until July 15.
