AN aggressive drunk assaulted his father before sitting in protest  on the roof of his home shouting abuse a police officers’.

Lloyd Broadhurst visited an address in Winwick ‘intoxicated’ and when his father asked him to leave, he ‘punched him in the face’.

Prosecuting, Laura Simpson said the incident took place on April22.

She told the courts how the assault caused bruising to the victim’s face and when he began to contact the police, Broadhurst took his phone and smashed it.

When officers arrived at the address, the 27-year-old defendant had made his way up onto the roof and was ‘shouting abuse’ and resisting arrest.

Wasting valuable emergency services time, not only were the police present but also an ambulance and the fire service as he refused to come down.

Defending, Peter Green said: “There are some issues with mental health and bipolar.”

He added that the offender has had issues with alcohol previously.

Broadhurst is no stranger to the courts either, having been put under supervision and given a driving ban after he attempted to flee from drug dealers in his dad’s Mercedes back in 2014 – with the handbrake still on.

Deputy District Judge Rowan addressed Broadhurst upon sentencing at Warrington Magistrates Court last Thursday.

He said: “The assault of your father you should be absolutely ashamed for.”

“You caused disruption to the community because you were drunk on the roof. You should look back upon this with a great deal of shame.

“Things got out of hand that day. I am hopeful that the sentence I pass today will help you.”

The offender was handed an 18-month community order as well as being ordered to take part in an alcohol treatment course.

He will also be required to carry out 35 rehabilitation days and will pay a fine of £100.
