THE traditional event Bawming the Thorn is back, but this time with a new addition.

Appleton Thorn hosts the unique ceremony on the third Saturday of June each year in a tradition dating back to the 19th century.

This year, Appleton Thorn Primary School has taken on the role of organising the parade, speech, and dance around the tree in the centre of the village.

But after the usual traditions, children, and staff are ‘delighted’ to move the after event ‘Bawm Fest’ – the first of its kind - into a new era which will see live music performed  by pupils, members of the community, musicians and local bands.

There will also be local merchant stalls, fete games, delicious street food, drinks, cocktails, and ice cream on offer.

A spokesperson for the school said: “The school has carefully planned the event to keep all members of the family entertained and to have a thoroughly wonderful day out.

“The Bawm Fest committee would like to thank the Parish Council for continuing to sponsor this event.”

Bawm Fest is taking place from 1pm on June 17 after the Bawming the Thorn celebrations.

Tickets can be purchased through the school’s Facebook page or you can visit here for more information: https://www.appletonthornprimary.org.uk
