A DETERMINED sister from Westbrook has raised thousands of pounds for The Christie after discovering her brother would be battling cancer for the third time.

Jude Ankers decided she wanted to do something positive for her 46-year-old brother, Michael King, when he received the devastating diagnosis of liver cancer and organised a fundraising fitness event at LiveWire.

The part-time body combat instructor led a four-hour non-stop combat class at the events hub in Great Sankey, which included five separate classes, with anyone welcome to join, have fun and donate some money for the cause.

“I am the type of person who likes to fix things and get things done,” Jude said. “That is the way I have tried to deal with things. You have to be positive and active with these things.”

Jude said how this was the hubs first ever body combat class and that a maximum of 38 people attended each class, which was led by her and other LiveWire instructors.

“Body combat is more of a hobby I get paid for which is amazing but the response to the event has been absolutely amazing.”

The free event was set to be challenging with the instructors feeling the strain after hours of intense cardio but many of the participants ‘stayed for the full four hours’.

Explaining the class, Jude added: “It was much harder than I thought it would be. Body Combat is a martial art inspired, high intensity cardio work out.”

A raffle was also held during the event with businesses donating prizes to be won and an exceptional £3,500 was raised for the cancer charity.

“The event was a testament to a lot of the LiveWire members and the loyalty they have for the instructors. A huge thank you to everyone that came.

“It was a really nice event, something positive out of something negative.”
