PARENTS in the Winwick area have been issued with a plea from police to check up on what their children are up to.
It comes after officers were called to green space following reports of youths starting arson fires under trees.
One fire engine from Birchwood Fire Station attended off Beckett Drive at 9.40pm, with the crew extinguishing the fire.
Evidence of laughing gas misuse was found at the scene, and Cheshire Police is urging parents to make sure their children are not misbehaving during an evening.
The force’s Burtonwood and Winwick Police team said: “Yesterday, Monday, we had reports of deliberate fires being lit on the park area near to Winwick Park.
“On attendance, a small group of teenagers had lit pallets right underneath a large tree.
“The group were also seen using nitrous oxide cannisters around the fire, but they had left before we arrived.
“Due to location, we believe that these kids will be local.
“If your kids came home smelling of fire, please have a word with them regarding the dangers and costs of deliberate fires, and the dangers of nitrous oxide inhalation.”
