A NEW gym has opened in Great Sankey after two members couldn’t bear to see a previous one close.
Dr John Paul McLindon, known as Paul, and Jane Poynton have invested £50k in revamping and rebranding ECE Fitness.
The functional fitness gym, which already has a ‘tight-knit’ member community, has had £21,000 worth of new equipment alone.
It is in the former spot of The Agoge on Gatewarth Industrial Estate.
The Agoge, of which Paul was a member for six years and Jane for one year, recently closed due to the owner moving to a different country.
But Paul, a former professional rugby player for Sale Sharks and England, and Jane thought it ‘deserved’ to be open due to it being a community-focused gym and it being one of the leading functional fitness gyms in the area.
So using their passion for functional fitness, they teamed together and created the new ECE Fitness in just 10 days.
Although ECE Fitness has only been open for a short while, it is proving to be quite the gym.
Promoting health and activity, Paul, who is a GP, and Jane, who is head of digital adoption at an electric wholesaler, say the gym caters to everyone and is bespoke.
The youngest member is 14 while the oldest is 76 and there are 11 programmes and six hours of classes a day which are suitable for all capabilities.
ECE Fitness also has different membership packages including couple memberships and household memberships.
And members can even bring their children along who can sit and watch television in a safe place while their parents work out.
To celebrate its opening, ECE Fitness is hosting an opening day on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
And with a focus on supporting the town’s businesses, a food truck, a DJ, and clothing apparel are just some of the things that will be on offer – as well as a free taster in the gym.
