A GALAXY far, far away is coming to Birchwood Shopping Centre this weekend.

Characters from the ever-popular sci-fi franchise Star Wars will descend on Birchwood at a free event.

Kicking off at 10am in the shopping centre, which is off Dewhurst Road, the event is set to last all day.

According to a post on social media, Star Wars fan charity group '99th Garrison' will be in attendance, providing a host of characters from the beloved saga.

As per the group's website: "The 99th Garrison operates mainly in the northern part of the United Kingdom, with outposts in the east Midlands, north Wales, north west and north Lincolnshire.

"The Garrison's primary aim is to raise funds and awareness for charities and worthy causes- and we also turn up at the occasional wedding and birthday party."

Posting on social media, the Garrison said: "This Saturday our troopers will be patrolling the malls of Birchwood Shopping Centre."

The event will be aimed at raising money for Dreamflight, a charity founded in 1986 that seeks to give children with life-limiting conditions a dream holiday.

Dreamflight says: "Dreamflight is not just a holiday; it does something that medicine can’t.

"The children get the opportunity to discover independence, confidence, and a whole new outlook on life.

"Often for the first time, they realise that they are not the odd one out.

"They gain perspective and experience things that they never thought possible."

So, if you fancy setting your eyes on some Stormtroopers, or the fearsome Darth Vader, Birchwood Shopping Centre could be the place to be this weekend.

The Star Wars character event will take place on Saturday, June 3, from 10am at Birchwood Shopping Centre.
