FROM Germany to the Czech Republic, Warrington has sister towns and villages across the world.

Sister cities are towns or villages twinned across the world, where both have made a cultural and commercial commitment to strengthen ties between the two places.

Warrington itself has two sister towns, with two villages within Warrington themselves also having twinned villages across the world.

Hilden, Germany
Warrington Guardian:

The twinship between Warrington and Hilden dates back to the 1960s, in which a British army regiment was stationed in the German town.

Primarily based out of Warrington, soldiers in the regiment developed friendships with German families, which led to a youth exchange in 1965.

Three years later, a formal partnership between the two towns was signed.

Náchod, Czech Republic

Warrington Guardian:

The Náchod District falls in the Czech Republic, close to the Polish border. Dating back to the fall of the communist government in 1990, the link came originally through Hilden.

Hilden itself is twinned with a small town not far from Náchod, with a mutual partnership agreement signed in February 1993.

The area itself is beautiful, with various rural and wooded sections, the town set in a narrow valley.

The town’s main attraction is a beautiful castle which dates back to the 13th century, with a bear pit containing two bears, Dáša and Ludvík.

Warrington Guardian:

Unfortunately, though Náchod’s websites still lists the duo, a post on the castle’s website says that in January of this year, Dáša the bear died and “went to bear heaven.”

Meung-Sur-Loire and Saint-Leu-la-Foret, France

Warrington Guardian:

Both Lymm and Culcheth hold their own twin villages with French communes Meung-Sur-Loire and Saint-Leu-la-Foret respectively.

Lymm holds an exchange visit each year, in which guests from each town will visit the other. After a three-year Covid break, they resumed this earlier this year.
