FRESH bouts of industrial action have caused rail operator Northern to announce a new travel advice calendar.

The rail operator - one of the largest in the country - has issued fresh advice ahead of industrial action that will disrupt one of the region's busiest weekends.

Strike action has been announced to take place next weekend, which happens to be the weekend that the Eurovision Song Contest final will take place in Liverpool.

Now, Northern has provided advice in time for the event and the expected disruption that industrial action will have on its services.

The industrial action is part of a dispute between rail workers and the Government regarding pay and working conditions.

Unions involved in the strikes include the RMT and ASLEF.

Tricia Williams, chief operating officer at Northern, said: “It is disappointing to see the return of industrial action to the rail network.

“Whilst all strikes disrupt someone, these particular dates will have a significant impact on people travelling on our network to celebrate the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.

“Given the context in which the UK is hosting this international event - on behalf of the people of Ukraine - this is particularly unfortunate.”
