LABOUR had held onto the Labour West seat on Warrington Borough Council following a by-election on Thursday.
Denis Matthews won the seat comfortably from the Conservatives. The election was called following the death of former Mayor Les Morgan earlier in the year.
It had been predicted to be a tight battle in an area where residents have staged protests about the introduction of low traffic neighbourhood zones which has seen the likes of Grange Avenue blocked to through traffic.
However Cllr Matthews easily won the seat with a larger majority than at the 2021 election in a disappointing result for the Tories.

Amanda Bowles Independent 199
1,628 people voted with a turnout of 28.3 per cent.
