AS the evenings get lighter and the sun starts to make its long-awaited appearance, a trip to the local pub after work can start to become a tempting proposal.

Throw into the mix a weekly pub quiz with your friends and family and it can break up a sometimes-tedious working week nicely.

Many of our favourite drinking spots across Warrington put on a great quiz night for the regulars and we have compiled a list of the top six according to TripAdvisor.

The Waterside Pub & Grill

Warrington Guardian:

Based on Centre Park Square, The Waterside host a weekly quiz on a Wednesday with quiz master ‘captain Dave’.

A recent reviewer said: “Fantastic quiz night as always. Every Wednesday with Captain Dave.

“Food never disappoints either. By far the highlight of this pub is the weekly quiz though. Definitely worth a trip.”

The pub has a Facebook page for the event and give regular updates of the scoreboard for each week as well as which quiz teams they have in for the night.

Another reviewer said: “Such a warm welcoming pub to come to with an amazing quiz, the atmosphere is just great and every week I come along with my friends for a well-earned laugh and meet up in the hump of the week.”

Bring your smart phone along for it because the days of paper quizzes are long gone.

The Pickering Arms

Warrington Guardian:

This pub on Bell Lane in Thelwall has also been showered with praise for its entertaining weekly quiz with one reviewer noting its ‘buzzy atmosphere’ on their visit.

“A pub quiz was taking place but there were so many people eating as well. I loved the fact this is a very olde world pub as there is a great buzzy atmosphere.”

Another reviewer said: “I go here for the pub quiz every week, which is really well set up. Never tried the food, but it always looks and smells delicious. Very friendly pub, well worth the visit.”

Meanwhile another visitor stated the uplifting event is always ‘great for a get together’.

Chapelford Farm

Every Tuesday in Great Sankey, Chapelford Farm put on a ‘fab’ quiz for the locals with one reviewer calling it the ‘best’ pub quiz around.

“Always a fab experience, thank you team Chapelford farm. Pop along on a Tuesday for the quiz, it's amazing.”

While another reviewer said: “Amazing, fun and interactive quiz. Lovely carvery and cake Great atmosphere and ambience. Staff are fantastic and loving.”

All done on a smartphone you and your quiz team can rock up for a night of fun and test your general knowledge, with prizes up for grabs too for the winners.

The Cheshire Cheese

Warrington Guardian:

A ‘great’ pub quiz is hosted at The Cheshire Cheese in Latchford every Tuesday.

The night includes both an entertaining quiz and a few rounds of bingo too, something fun for everyone.

One reviewer said: “Go here all the time for quiz and bingo nights and just in general for a drink with friends! Great atmosphere.”

Meanwhile another regular praised the landlord as a great quizmaster for the Tuesday evenings.

“I go twice a week including on Tuesday quiz night which I highly recommend- a diverse range of challenging questions, and the landlord is an excellent and entertaining quizmaster.”

Cash prizes are on offer for the winners as well as a round of drinks and their Facebook page claim it to be ‘the best quiz night in Wazza’.

Trigger Pond

This drinking spot in Great Sankey hosts a free quiz night every Friday for locals to round of the week with.

Described by one reviewer as a ‘great night’ with ‘good atmosphere, the weekly event is highly recommended.

One reviewer said: “Another great quiz night at The Trigger Pond.

“The staff including Francesca, Cameron, Benny and the ever so kind Corina were ever so helpful, ensuring we had a table for the quiz during a busy evening eating period. Definitely worth a visit.”

While another said: “Great food, amazing staff and such good fun at the quiz night with the quiz people.”

Skymaster

Warrington Guardian:

An ‘excellent’ family-friendly smartphone quiz is held at The Skymaster in Westbrook every Thursday.

One reviewer who is a regular to the quiz night said: “Been visiting The Skymaster for their weekly trivia quiz since May.

“As a family we love going, the team are always excellent and make us feel very welcome. Food is great and the whole place has a great atmosphere.”

With raving reviews for the food and welcoming atmosphere it is definitely one worth checking out.
