A RECKLESS disqualified driver has been spared jail following a crash that saw two people hospitalised.

While driving a BMW, Patrick Mazur crashed into a bus which led to both vehicles crashing into another car on a main road between Warrington and Widnes.

Not only was he disqualified from driving, but he was also uninsured at the time of the crash.

Mazur, of Tilston Avenue, Latchford, was sentenced on Thursday after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle on a road or public place without third party insurance.

Prosecuting, Emma Comer said the incident happened at around 4pm on January 17 on Widnes Road at the junction of Tannery Lane and saw police, fire and ambulance crews attend.

Following the crash, the driver of the bus, a 60-year-old man, and the driver of the other vehicle, a 47-year-old woman, were taken to hospital.

Ms Comer said that just a month earlier, 23-year-old Mazur, who is a personal trainer, had been disqualified from driving following two other incidents of driving while uninsured.

Defending, David Campbell said: “He made a serious error of judgement in driving the vehicle that day.

“He should not have done it, but he has expressed remorse and accepts that he should be punished.

“He is relatively young and not fully emotionally developed.”

Mr Campbell told the court how there were no prosecutions in terms of Mazur’s actual driving relating to the crash.

Before sentencing, district judge John McGarva said: “This is a serious case where you have deliberately ignored a court order.”

Mazur was handed an eight-week prison sentence suspended for two years and must complete 100 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay a £154 surcharge and court coasts of £120.

The court handed Mazur a further 12-month driving ban.
