A NEW ambulance station for the NHS is set to be created on Gemini retail park.

Planning permission has been granted to the NHS by Warrington Borough Council's planning bosses for a warehouse to be converted into the new station.

The application submitted on the council's planning portal shows that the NHS has asked for permission to change the use of a building from a warehouse into the new ambulance site.

According to the documents submitted as part of the application, the new site will be used for neonatal care - which focuses on babies in their first 28 days of life.

The plans are for the new development that is off the pre-existing Gemini site, which is home to companies such as Tim Horton's, Travelodge, and Marks & Spencer.

Documents say that the plans were submitted in order to create a facility that will assist with the NHS' north west neonatal services.

Planning documents read: "The location of the development is ideal for the proposed use as it provides excellent links via the motorway network to Merseyside and Greater Manchester and via Burtonwood Road to the wider Cheshire area.

"This will help the neo-natal ambulance services reach patients throughout the northwest quickly and efficiently.

"Overall, it is considered that the principle of the development is acceptable due to its location in an existing employment area with high-quality access to the M62 and nearby towns and cities in Cheshire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester."

No external changes are planned for the building in question, according to the planning application that was submitted in January this year.

The new ambulance hub will have space for six ambulances, as well as retaining the current number of parking spaces for other vehicles - 19.

A decision was issued by Warrington Borough Council on Thursday, April 6, which grants permission for the proposed development to go ahead, which will see Westbrook become the home for the new ambulance station.
