WE all know a lot has changed in Warrington over the past decade.

So, we thought we would take a look at what renowned and iconic parts of town looked like then, and now, to compare with the help of Google Maps and when they most recently visited that street.

Do they look how you remember them?

Fletcher Street

In July 2009, Fletcher Street still bordered on Wilderspool, of course, ground to Warrington Wolves after the move to Halliwell Jones in 2004.

The stadium was knocked down in late 2014 and now grass can be found as the space now awaits planning developments.

A scheme to build almost 200 homes on the land was agreed last month.

Bewsey and Dallam Hub

On Longshaw Street, spare land could be seen back in 2009 to the side of the road.

Now, having opened in November 2021 and pictured in May, the Bewsey and Dallam hub takes its place.

The £4.3m facility was proposed around five years ago but had been hit by delays throughout the construction process.

It brings vital leisure, library, and community facilities to the area.

Aldi, Chiltern Road

The Orford supermarket may have its place now, but in the not too distant past Fordton Leisure came before it.

The site became redundant in 2012 following the opening of Orford Jubilee Park.

Then Aldi came and it was followed by Costa, The Stonemill, Betfred and Greggs.

Station Road

The Manchester ship canal used to be banked by Beers Timber and Building Supplies yard.

Before that, it had been Warrington timber.

Now, 189 flats have been constructed on Station Road as part of the Old Station Gardens scheme.

Academy Way

Back in 2009, Academy Way used to house the old Time Square car park and a bridge that joined the car park and the market.

To the right now, the back of a new Time Square building can be found instead, there is no bridge and the car park has been smartened up.

Bridge Foot

On Bridge Foot lay the former Mr Smith’s building, which, for a two-year spell until 2010, was Halo nightclub.

In April 2015, a fire ripped through the building. A day later and it had been demolished after it was deemed unsafe.

A car park has since been erected in its place.
