WARRINGTON Hospital has accepted that it has 'work to do' in order to provide a satisfactory experience for its staff.

A recent poll revealed that almost 45 per cent of staff at the hospital would not be happy for a friend or relative to be treated there.

The data comes as the result of a staff survey, which is conducted regularly across the NHS in England.

Statements to agree or disagree with in the survey include "I would recommend my organisation as a place to work," and "If a friend or relative needed treatment I would be happy with the standard of care provided by this organisation."

55.7 per cent of those who responded to the survey said that they would recommend Warrington Hospital as a place to work; the national average for positive responses was 56.5 per cent.

55.8 per cent of respondents said they would be happy with the standard of care provided for a friend or relative; the national average was 61.9 per cent.

These two statistics represent a decline in staff satisfaction in terms of work-life, and standard of care provided at the hospital from the year before, when the figures were 60.6 per cent and 63.6 per cent, respectively.

A spokesperson for Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “Our staff survey results demonstrate that we perform better than other hospital trusts nationally in relation to five out of the nine themes including staff morale; recognition and reward; compassion and inclusivity; feeling safe and healthy and having a voice that counts.

"We do, however, recognise that we have work to do to provide the experience of work that we aspire to for all our staff.

“Although the results for this particular indicator have declined for our organisation, they are reflective of the current national picture within hospital trusts, which has shown a decrease in staff recommending their own trust as a place to receive treatment to a friend or relative."

The spokesperson added: “The results reflect the continued pressure which has remained since the Covid-19 pandemic including unprecedented demand for emergency care, challenges in transferring patients to the next place of care as well as a demanding programme to recover the backlog in elective surgery and procedures.

"The impact of these factors on the morale and resilience of NHS staff is borne out in this year’s survey results."
