We have done some research for you and compiled a list of some of the best family-friendly pubs in Warrington to treat your loved one to a meal on Mother’s Day.

The Plough, Mill Lane

The Plough in Houghton Green has been given recent five-star ratings for its ‘great’ food and ‘friendly’ atmosphere.

First built in 1774, the building still holds much of its original character and some of its regulars have been visiting their local for decades.

One Google reviewer said: “Food and service was great. Friendly and helpful staff. Large outdoor area and dog friendly. Love this pub.

“I've actually been going to the plough since 1976 and it's always been a lovely place. I'd recommend it any day of the week.”

The pub, now owned by chain Green King, has an extensive menu with all sorts of dishes to try including your favourite pub classics, sharing platters, burger, kebab skewers, and a whole separate menu of their delicious grilled bites.

The Waterside - Pub & Grill, Centre Park Square

A pub local to the site of the Warrington Guardian has been praised for its ‘great’ atmosphere, ‘amazing’ staff and ‘tasty’ food.

The Waterside is located on Centre Park Square complex, local to the centre of town and a great place to visit for a family occasion.

One Google reviewer said: “This pub and restaurant was absolutely fantastic, I went on a Sunday.

“The staff where so amazing and friendly. Definitely recommend this place food was delicious and staff was fantastic.”

While another said: “The Waterside Warrington is a fabulous place to go for a Sunday roast.

“The pork loin was absolutely stunning, and I adored the chocolate brownie sundae.

“All of the staff who served were friendly and provided service with a smile. I'll definitely be returning.

The Station House, Padgate

A well-loved pub, The Station House stands out with its option of an ‘authentic smokehouse experience’, having an in-house smoker on the premises.

Not only does it have its selection of smokehouse ribs, brisket, chicken and pulled pork, it also has the pub classics and even a selection of grilled meats too.

On Sundays they do also have the option of a small or large Sunday dinner.

One Google reviewer summed their experience up by saying: “An excellent dining out experience. A wonderful friendly host, well cooked food which was very well presented, good portion size ,and above all great value for money.”

The Pickering Arms, Bell Lane

This charming pub in Thelwall would be the perfect place to spend Mothering Sunday.

It has a classic British pub menu and the option again of a Sunday roast, with what looks to be Yorkshire puddings the size of your head.

One reviewer said: “Brilliant oldy worldy pub. Massive meals, excellent quality PUB food. Very busy, lots of locals, dog friendly.”

While another said: “We had late lunch here today and was genuinely surprised by how good it was!! I had the fish finger sandwich, and my partner had the club sandwich.

“Both simple but honestly left us stunned at how nice it was. We will be back. Staff was so attentive what a credit they are to the establishment.”

The Skymaster, Apollo Park

This new-build pub in Westbrook is a favourite with locals.

A massive draw to it being the delicious carvery which to most is irresistible on a Sunday.

The eatery is a popular place for birthdays and special occasions with the family and the added bonus of a huge playground for the kids to run around in.

One recent review said: “Food fantastic. Service excellent, friendly efficient.

“Very clean, nice surroundings and atmosphere. Excellent we’ll done all.”

While another said: “Good atmosphere, was busy. But staff very attentive and speedy. Reasonable menu and reasonable prices.

“I had fish and chips and couldn't fault it. They also have a varied selection of beers. If I'm in the area again I wouldn't hesitate to go back.”

Barley Mow, Golden Square

A ‘great place to sit and watch the world go by’ according to a recent reviewer, this pub is a nice central one to visit with the family.

Located in the heart of town centre, in Golden Square, the Barley Mow has heaps of character, having first been built in 1561.

They have a vast menu with plenty of options including small plates, sharing platters, wings and burgers and a grilled selection of meats. Along with a great choice of cocktails too.

One reviewer spoke of their first impression of the pub: “What a great experience. The warmest of welcomes and such a wonderful pub full of history.

“I didn’t eat but the smell was glorious I will definitely be back to sample that. However overall, it was the staff that made it special.”

Chapelford Farm, Santa Rosa Boulevard

This charming eatery in Great Sankey has been given great reviews as a perfect pub for a family outing or occasion.

Another great appeal to this pub is the all-day carvery with a selection of roasted meats, as well as a separate menu with plenty of other tasty dishes.

One Google review said: “Fantastic. All, and I mean each and every member of staff that we interacted with was a first-class example of perfect customer service leading to excellent customer satisfaction.

“The food was lovely, fresh and hot, nothing was too much trouble for the staff who all went over and above and offered excellent and informative customer service.”

The baked in-house fresh cakes have also been noted as a highlight.

“Wow the food is absolutely delicious, amazing doesn’t cover it , delivered hot and on time… all fresh and beautifully presented.

“The cake is so yummy , it is literally the biggest slice of cake I have ever seen.”

The Maltings, Bewsey Farm Close

If you are looking for a dog-friendly establishment for Mothering Sunday, The Maltings in Bewsey might be a great choice for you.

Reviews are very praising of the food and atmosphere, and it is also highlighted that there is easy accessibility for wheelchair users.

One review said: “We love everything about this pub. Number 1 factor being it is dog friendly. Nothing better than going for a dog walk and popping in for some good food which is reasonably priced as well. We appreciate they prefer dogs over people (who doesn't).”

The Stag at Walton, Chester Road

One reviewer said: “This was our first visit since the refurbishment recently, and it did not disappoint at all.

“The decor is very fresh and modern and very tastefully done. The service was excellent, every single member of the team we interacted with was very friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic too, I had a perfectly cooked ribeye steak my wife had gammon which was also spot on.”

The fish and chips are a highly recommended dish, as well as the ‘lovely’ Sunday roast.

The Rams Head Inn, Church Lane

A beautiful old pub set on the cobbled paths of Church Lane in Grappenhall, The Rams Head Inn is bursting with character and a perfect place to enjoy a Mother's Day meal.

The pub was originally built in 1893 and while updates have been made, the cosey feel still exists within its walls, with a log burning fire adding to the atmosphere.

One recent review said: “Such a lovely warm and welcoming little gem set in a beautiful village scene and great food. Would definitely recommend.”

While another stated the mixed grill was ‘the best I have ever had’.

Another review stated: “The food, wine and beer were all great and the service as always excellent and friendly. I highly recommend the Rams head.”

The pub also has garden pods fitted in their outdoor seating area if you fancy bracing the cold on a clear day.
